The NHS Digital team wanted to highlight to practices that BT Group has released a statement following trades union CWU’s announcement that its members intend to hold two days of industrial action on Friday 29 July and Monday 1 August 2022.
The industrial action will affect BT Openreach staff who maintain networks not just for BT, but for health and social care network’s consumer network service providers (CNSPs) who may have some of their network and infrastructure provided by BT Openreach. There is a potential risk that if a major network incident occurs on one of these days of industrial action, it could take longer than expected to resolve the incident and ensure network connectivity returns to normal.
The team at NHS Digital has already been in contact with all CNSPs to confirm that they have plans in place to mitigate any impact as a result of the industrial action. BT Group has provided assurance that they have tried and tested processes for large scale absences.
However, as a precaution, NHS DIgital wanted to eraise awareness of this period, and highlight to practices that they should look to reduce unnecessary network/major IT change activity and have local mitigation processes ready.
For further information, your CNSP should be able to confirm the plans they have in place and provide details of any further actions you can take in preparation for these two days.
