Nursing Newsletter 19th March 2021

Dear All

It’s been busy in the vaccination hubs and I know that PCN 3 delivered their 40,000th covid-19 vaccine on Sunday – amazing achievement by a lot of amazing people who have contributed to this.  PCN 5 used a “pop-up” vaccine centre at the weekend to provide vaccinations to  “hard to reach communities using the local “interfaith” networks. Work continues within Barnet to further develop the pop up model and community engagement across the Borough to increase the vaccine uptake in other hesitant groups

No doubt you are aware of all the controversy surrounding the Astra Zeneca vaccine and will be dealing with queries.  EMA have ruled that the vaccine is safe and effective.  We need to put out a positive message to the “vaccine hesitant” that the battle is not with the vaccine but with the Virus. Emer Cooke, the executive director of the EMA, said the AstraZeneca vaccine is a “safe and effective option to protect citizens from COVID-19.” The EMA said the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks after coming to a “clear scientific conclusion”.

Clinical /Peer supervision sessions restarting next week

As you are aware the recent Covid vaccine roll out as meant that we have all been stretched and the clinical supervision sessions have not taken place.

Now we are beginning to emerge from lockdown Jacqui and I are pleased to let you know we are now able to offer these supportive sessions again once again led by Jacqui. The Next session will be held on the original diary date Wednesday 24th March 1-2.pm. Please reply to Jacqui Jacqui.hodgson@nhs.net for the link to be resent if you have deleted it.

CCG  Medicines Management Workshop 24th March – Message from Sheldon Russell

I must apologise yet again for the postponement of this much awaited workshop. We have now booked it for 30th September 2021 and I will get back to you a couple of months before hand to ask those of you who are still interested to let me know. I hope by then that most of us will have been vaccinated.

Of course, please do take pity on us speakers as so much has changed in the last year, we keep on having to rewrite our presentations!!!!!

Article with Practice Nurse Journal

Covid brought an overnight change to the work of general practice nurses (GPNs) as care shifted from face-to-face to the virtual environment. GPNs adapted rapidly, but the system they worked in still had to deal with familiar, pre-existing issues of how to recruit and keep GPNs and attract future nurses to the role. To help meet this challenge, Healthy London Partnership, in collaboration with Health Education England and NHSE/I has created a series of podcasts highlighting the importance of the many roles held by the GPN workforce in every element of healthcare, from birth to death, and how they can influence the future of healthcare.  The podcasts with comments from some of the guest speakers has been published in the Practice Nurse Journal, the link is available here and can be shared further afield with your networks.
