Nursing Newsletter – 20 August 2021

Dear All

It is the height of the summer holiday season – somehow the weather doesn’t seem to agree!  Whatever your plans are – do make sure you have a break away from work with your family and friends.

Welcome to Filomena DiCaprio who has joined Hendon Way Practice.

This week’s Edition

GPN Trainee Programme 2022

I am constantly being asked by practices to find them a nurse  and I wish I had a ”drawer full” to oblige this request.  One way of ensuring a sustainable nursing workforce in general practice is to “grow our own”.

HEE has provided funding once again this year to increase our GPN capacity.  Please have conversations with your practice partners and managers, especially if you are thinking of succession planning.  You can play a key role in supporting practices to ensure that nursing remains a key role in General Practice by supporting the next generation of nurses in Barnet.  Information about this programme which is due to start in January 2022 has been circulated to Practice Partners and Managers. I would greatly appreciate your support in ensuring we have as many Trainees in placement as possible to ensure continuity of nursing provision for the population of Barnet.

Congratulations NCL Nursing Associate Collaborative!

Our training provider, Middlesex University has been shortlisted for the Student Nursing Times Award as Nursing Associate Programme of the Year. Given that we are a collaborative, this reflects upon all our efforts, working together to make this programme the best it can be: https://studentawards.nursingtimes.net/shortlist_2021

THANK YOU to all of you and for Marion’s leadership of the training programme itself. Fingers crossed for the awards ceremony in November!

CARE programme 2 – launch event 9 September 1-2pm

NCL Training Hub are looking forward to running another CARE programme this autumn. This is an opportunity for nurses to develop their leadership skills and develop communities of practice across their networks. They will also learn project management skills through delivery of a project in agreement with their PCN Clinical Director. This programme is linked to the PCN Nurse Lead project and priority will be given to nurses taking on those funded roles supported by their PCNs. The launch event is on Thursday 9 September 12-1pm – please register HERE – see attachment for more details, agenda to follow.  We have had 2 nurses from Barnet in the previous programme (Karen Landi) whose wellbeing work you have seen on our WhatsApp group and Ekene Taylor who is supporting the virtual group consultation work in her PCN.  I encourage you to consider this supportive programme for your own development.
