Barnet CEPN Carers Self Care Project

During 2017/18 Barnet Community Education Provider Network (CEPN), sponsored by Health Education England, implemented a Carers Self Care Project. One of the work streams delivered a number of carer’s training workshops, in 3 localities across Barnet, in partnership with Barnet Carer’s Centre. Barnet CEPN plan to continue and develop this initiative.
As a new area of work for the Barnet CEPN, a good start has been made and we plan to build on our success so far. Working in the South of the Borough, in partnership with Jewish Care, the Barnet Carers Centre and lead surgeries, we aim to run a further series of 5 or 6, monthly carers workshops. The proposal is to re-run the workshops already devised, plus some additional, ‘new’ workshops with the community focusing on key areas that are relevant to carers health and wellbeing. If successful, this model could then be repeated with appropriate faith and community groups across Barnet.
>We are aiming to run workshops with relevant community and voluntary organisations including: Mental Health with IAPT services or Mind, End of Life Planning with AgeUK and Caring for someone with Dementia with the Alzheimer’s Society.  At the time of writing, our partners, the Barnet Carers Centre, have a good presence in four of the Barnet primary care health centres for Carers Week 2018. Finally in the West of the Borough we are aiming to set up a Carers Peer Support Group at the Oak Lodge Health Centre.
